Oldest Barns in Farmstead given a new lease of life
The barns use had been limited in latter years and our client had realised that without conversion the barns would probably fall into disrepair and would therefore be lost to the local heritage. We were appointed to gain full planning approval for the conversion of two agricultural barns into two residential dwellings.
Approval was gained at the first attempt, careful consideration was given to the room layouts in order to allow them to function correctly for the client’s needs whilst allowing for limited interventions into the existing fabric of the barn. Although the barns were found to be structurally sound and capable of conversion, to enable the existing fabric to retain its structural integrity an inner wall was proposed within the existing natural stone walls.
The proposal has allowed the existing barns to be brought back to their former glory using a sympathetic approach, whilst still retaining their original construction. A valuable piece of rural heritage has been retained for future generations to enjoy.
