We were given the brief to remodel extend and refurbish a post war detached house to create a flexible family home which included a new rear extension to interact with the garden and embrace the fantastic views across Truro and the Cathedral.
The property was a post war detached house in a residential location surrounded by other detached properties in a variety of styles. Careful design considerations needed to be undertaken to ensure that the Architectural style of the proposed extension responded positively within the area.
The house was thermally upgraded so that it has minimal heating costs. The roof and the external walls were insulated and the re-rendering of the exterior walls complemented the refreshing of the façade. Influence was sought from the immediate area and the material palette designed to replicate the original character in a contemporary manner.
The proposal refreshed the existing property in a way which respected its locality, but was also highly sustainable. The design demonstrates how an existing empty property can be brought back into use as a flexible family home.
