| Contemporary replacement dwelling, Portmellon
We were appointed by a private client to design a high quality contemporary and sustainable replacement dwelling.
The relationship and impact of the proposal on the Local and wider environment especially the AONB were paramount in the design process. The style and the materials used are a contemporary interpretation of a local palette where the attention to detail is critical delivering a quality of dwelling that will be truly outstanding in an area dominated by characterless 1950s to the present day coastal village development. The roofs will be predominately natural slate with small areas of tailored lead-work. Walls are a mix of white render, timber cladding and natural stone. The natural stone walls and timber cladding will assist in the building having a sense of place along with the natural slate used on the roof, whilst the white render walls will enable crisp detailing. The design also maximised the views towards the sea using slimline aluminimum glazing systems. The scheme has recently gained full planning approval.
