Issue: 1 August 2008

Following our launch in 2007 we have made a flying start and have a range of jobs in various sectors throughout Cornwall and now into Devon. We are already proud to have several successful planning and building regulation approvals with schemes starting on site in Summer 2008.

Initially we were running the practice from a remote barn conversion, which although idyllic, it lacked the facilities we wanted for both the team and our client. In May 2008 we moved into new offices; the opportunity to be at the centre of the vibrant town of Wadebridge, North Cornwall, was to good to miss . The new offices provide much better facilities for our clients, incorporating a private meeting room, a drawing office, printing room and reception area.

May 2008 also saw us being awarded for "… recognition of the company's actions to minimise environmental impacts and improve environmental efficiency". Atelier 3 is now working towards BS8555 accreditation for our Environmental Management Systems, with Envision.

This year we have also volunteered our services for ‘Architect in the House’ and we hope this will become a regular occurrence.

“Architect in the House offers you an hour-long consultation with an RIBA chartered architect, who is giving their time in exchange for a suggested donation of £40 to Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity. The money will go towards Shelter's work with families in housing need. One in seven children in Britain lives in rundown, damp or overcrowded housing, or is without a permanent home altogether.”

More information about Architect in the House can be viewed here: http://www.architectinthehouse.org.uk/what_is_aith.php

In July 2008 we launched our subsidiary energy assessment company Atelier3Sap (http://www.atelier3sap.co.uk) which offers SAP home energy assessments for new builds to a variety of customers, including a fellow Architectural Practice in Cornwall, further services include Energy Performance Certificates, please view the website for further information.

During July we had a work experience student from Wadebridge Comprehensive School. We set various tasks for the student to partake in whilst learning the role of an Architect. The placement proved to be a great success and we have been asked to take part in next year’s scheme.

July also saw Tim Hancock elected to the Committee of the RIBA Cornwall Branch. Tim will be responsible for re-establishing the RIBA Branch schools competition. “
